Only a fool tried me when I had a child in my arms.
I escaped the limo at the doors leading into the Spanish palace, and the start of a headache brewed throughout the entirety of my skull. A flash of pink warned me trouble approached in time to brace for the exuberance of a young child on a mission.
Princess Alondra plowed into me with a squeal.
Before my cousin could intervene in some misguided effort to spare me from aggravating my concussion, I scooped her up, spun around, and plopped kisses on her cheeks before settling her on my hip. âAnd thereâs my favorite reason for visiting Spain. You didnât even have to fight your agents for attention this time.â
The last time, I had wanted to cuddle with the children rather than do my job, earning me a scolding from my twerp of a cousin, my boss, and my fellow agents. A younger Princess Alondra had pitched a fit, bit several of her agents, and otherwise created adorable mayhem before getting to me and invoking the rules regarding young, royal children taking RPS agents hostage.
In truth, nobody minded when a child took me hostage. Only a fool tried me when I had a child in my arms, and the fools who tried left in a body bag. As such, my boss, my cousin, and the annoyed agents forgave me for indulging in my aunt tendencies, as I did my best work when responsible for a youngling.
âI told them I would cry,â she informed me in her most serious tone. âMr. Edward told me you were very sad youâd lost your chance to be greeted by a cute princess.â
If Edward was trying to win his way into my bedroom, he was doing a good job of it. âI had photographic evidence you were being absolutely adorable. Anyone would be sad missing when youâre being adorable.â
âHe showed me the pictures! We had tea together with my brothers and sisters. We are all agreed I was particularly adorable. Is it true youâre taking Mr. Edward home with you?â
Goodness. I ran a risk of losing Edward to Spainâs royal family, all of whom took lessons from their first breath on being charming. If it werenât for my tendency to find terrorists hiding out in Spain, Spain would be one of my favorite destinations, and Iâd even deal with dirty words to visit. âI would like to, but Iâll bring him over to visit often.â With my impending elevation to heir, making me the first heir to a throne to be employed with the RPS, Iâd be making a lot more trips overseas.
Fuck. I narrowed my eyes and glared at my cousin, who held up his hands in surrender.
âDid His Majesty do something?â Alondra asked.
âHe hovered and worried,â I replied, smiling and giving her another kiss on her cheek. âDid you introduce Edward to your horses?â
âI did! And we went to the stable of unbonded horses to meet them. Heâs met a friend! Heâs utterly in love.
